SilentJ
SilentJ began in the early Spring of 2007 with two acoustic guitars on a backyard deck in Ellicott City, MD. We soon added a third guitar that quickly transformed into a bass. Months later, another meeting on the deck turned up a drummer from down the street. Days later, SilentJ was born in a basement jam session.
During the spring and summer months of 2007, SilentJ (Kevin Brady, Jeff Daro, John Mauser, Tim Newman) worked continuously to harness the raw energy that each individual brought to the table to produce a sound they could call their own. Not long after, SilentJ played for the first time in front of an audience at a Labor Day Festival that marked the end of a great summer of musical discovery and the beginning of greater things to come!
Mend (2008)
Songs from our first EP, Mend.
Since then, SilentJ has composed some 20+ original pieces and has carefully selected a set of cover tunes that collectively offers a musical library that distinguishes SilentJ from the rest of the Baltimore live music scene.
People ask how the band was formed, and we can only answer, organically. It just happened.
Throughout 2008, SilentJ has played a number of notable Baltimore and surrounding area establishments in both intimate acoustic venues to full stage productions in clubs such as Sonar, Pickles Pub, The 8x10 Club, The Brass Monkey Saloon, The Whiskey in Annapolis, The Red House, The Fish Head Cantina, Cacao Lane, and more. We continue to grow a fantastic fan base that is enthusiastic and thirsty! We look forward to bringing that energy to your establishment.

Big Thanks to the SilentJ Army...
From day one, we've had a very supportive fan base, and every month it seems to grow and become more passionate. We find that our fans are as passionate for our music, as we are. For that, we are grateful. We love writing, composing and performing, but without our fans, we'd have nothing.
Liner Notes...
May 21, 2009We've made a few changes to the web site. Our Cafepress site, now has some new gear. We've put 2009 Tour shirts up on the site. Show up at a gig with one on, and I (Jeff) will personally buy you drink. We've also updated the Discography page to include free downloads of all of our tunes, as well as our music videos. And finally, our Press Kit is now available for download as well.
May 15, 2009SilentJ is helping teens quit smoking. SilentJ's song Words in a Letter is being distributed with the Maryland Trash program's Quit Smoking Kit for teens. SilentJ is one of five bands that were selected to participate in this project. We're happy to do our part to help teens quit smoking. You can learn more about the program on the Maryland Trash web site. Teens can order a quit smoking package there as well.
May 02, 2009Has it really been almost a year since we last updated the liner notes? Ouch. I guess we've been rockin' out to hard to be on the Internets. SilentJ has been working on some new material; some covers of some old favorites as well as some new very cool originals. We're excited for May 28...and the Frederick Alive @ Five gig. It's going to be a great show, at a great venue...and we'll be ready with some new tunes. See you there. And then two days later at Michael's Pub in Columbia, MD. That will be an awesome time.
August 13, 2008
August 13? Already? The summer is over? What happened to summer? Seems like the summer of '08 just passed us
right by. It seems like we didn't do much, but we got a lot done. We've released two singles this week. You can
check out Words in a Letter, and Life Chosen/Bullet on our MySpace page.
We hope to have the music on other sites soon as well to make it easy for you to get to. We also put together
our first music video. This started as a goof in the studio. Kevin and Jeff recorded some video with a digicam
and we edited it together to make a quick video. It looked good, so we shot more video, and did it up right. You can
check out that video, and a video of us rehearsing in the studio on Youtube.com.
The August 8, 2008 show at the Fish Head was a blast. We had a huge turn out, and the night was just perfect. Thanks
so much to everyone that came out and supported us.
IGU has confirmed and we are ready to go for the Fish Head Cantina in Arbutus. It's going to be an awesome night at an outdoor venue. Plenty of great food, drink and of course music will be there to be had. The show starts at 9:00pm and goes to 1:30am. We hope to see everyone there.
July 3, 2008
Summertime is in full swing, and SilentJ is working on new material. We're looking forward to our show at the Fish Head Cantina next month. IGU will be joining us again, which is awesome. We'll be playing some new covers as well as some new originals.
January 17, 2008Our gig last night at the Fish Head Cantina in Arbutus with International Graduate University was fantastic. We had a great turn out, 40+ people on a Wednesday night in January! Awesome. The PA and the sound guys Joe and Scott were amazing. We couldn't have asked for a better night. Everything was spot on, and once again the SilentJ Army totally posted for us. We are so grateful. We are hoping to post some live recordings from the show on MySpace soon.
January 1, 2008
January is shaping up to be the culmination of our winter tour *sic*. We're playing our gig at the Fish Head Cantina in Arbutus with International Graduate University and then we plan to get in on the Open Mic at the 8x10 club. After that we'll be out of commission for awhile. We're taking some time off from playing gigs to work on some new material. We have a bunch of new originals, and we are definatley going to pull out some new covers too.
Sometime in March we should be back on our feet and ready to his Bal'more again. We hope to do some shows by teaming up with some other Baltimore Bands this summer. More to come soon...
